Community of Practice
July 31-August 2, 2015; and November 6-8, 2015
Upon the direction and urging of Cynthia Bourgeaus, we are creating an intentional Community of
Practice in the Wisdom tradition to deepen knowing and learning through
spiritual practice. Because we are scattered across a diverse geographical and
spiritual landscape, the Community of Practice will afford the opportunities to
periodically gather together for growth and support. Joining together in this
way will provide support and keep us connected.
Our common interest will be Wisdom—the deepening of our contemplative practice, attention practices, and the development of myriad expressions of spiritual work (formal and informal) in the world. And while specific issues of all kinds will undoubtedly be discussed, our gatherings will primarily be directed in the more general direction of deepening our being through practice.
Who will be included? While this will not be an exclusive club with set membership guidelines, the common threads that will join us together are interest and experience in Wisdom work as initiated by Cynthia’s writings and teachings. Mostly we all will have experienced a Wisdom School and will be actively engaged in ongoing meditation and awareness practices. But because this work assumes such a countercultural direction, mutual support is vital.
Where will we meet? While this community will transcend geographical location and could draw from the far-flung corners of New England, our meetings will be generously offered at Hallelujah Farm (the Lower Farm) in Chesterfield, NH.
When and how often will these gatherings take place? During the calendar year of 2015 there will be three weekend gatherings: April 17-19; July 31-August 2; and November 6-8. Based on both the interest and the success of these initial gatherings, the longer-range plan may well include more frequent meetings. Each weekend will begin with dinner on Friday and will continue through lunch on Sunday. Overnight accommodations will be in shared double rooms. Folks who are more local may certainly commute.
Who will lead these gatherings? Cynthia has asked Bill Redfield to both organize and facilitate these weekends. Bill was introduced to Centering Prayer by Cynthia 24 years ago and has been part of her Advanced Wisdom Group for about the last eight years. Presently, he is working with Cynthia on the Board of Northeast Wisdom.
Who will assist in this work? Bill will be working closely with Sandy and Roger Daly, who will be providing the hospitality. We are also deeply indebted to the generosity of John Daly and his late wife Helen both for Hallelujah Farm and for the funding for Northeast Wisdom. Occasionally when she is available, Cynthia will be joining us. Other practitioners will also be invited periodically.
How will the weekend be structured? We will follow the Benedictine rhythm that we have grown accustomed to in our Wisdom Schools; shared silence and worship, discussion, conscious work, chanting, and the study of the Gospel of Thomas will punctuate the day.
How can I sign up? Registration for our Community of Practice gatherings can be done by emailing Cathy Dutch at wisdomswork@gmail.com and requesting a registration form.
